Australian passport photo maker, 35 × 45 mm

Australia measures the head from the chin to the crown, hair not counted. Add a selfie and the maker sizes it to the passport range and builds the file or print sheet.

A selfie is fine. The photo is taken by itself only when position, shoulders, facing, expression and light are all right; size and framing are set automatically.

Add one photo of your face looking straight at the camera (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC).

How to take a photo that passes
  • Stand about 1 m in front of a plain light wall, facing a window or soft light.
  • A selfie is fine: hold the phone at arm’s length at eye level (both hands keep the shoulders level), face and shoulders square to it. A phone right in front of the face makes the nose and forehead look bigger.
  • Look straight at the camera, mouth closed, both eyes open, hair off the eyes and ears.
  • No hat, no tinted glasses; keep your shoulders in the picture.
  • Use a photo taken in the last 6 months.

Your photo stays on this device. Only the AI model files (about 41 MB, once) are downloaded from this site.

Your photo never leaves this device. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. ‘1. Choose the document’ already shows Australian passport (35 × 45 mm). Switch with ‘Country’ or ‘Document and size’. ‘Show size and rules’ lists what the Australian passport photo asks for.
  2. For the Australian passport photo, use ‘2. Add your photo’: press ‘Open the camera’ or add a file. Keep your face straight to the lens for the Australian passport photo and use daylight.
  3. Read the ‘Checks’. For Australian passport the head has to measure 32–36 mm, measured from the chin to the top of the head, hair not counted, on a white or light grey background. For Australian passport, anything under ‘Some things need a new photo’ comes with the reason and a retake tip.
  4. Use ‘Fine-tune’ for the position and for the head size of the Australian passport photo (32–36 mm allowed). Keep ‘Face, hair and clothes’ on ‘No touch-ups’.
  5. For Australian passport: ‘Save file’ suits an online form; ‘Save print sheet’ lays out several 35 × 45 mm copies on 4 × 6 in, 10 × 15 cm or 89 × 127 mm paper.

What it does

  • The rules for Australian passport

For Australian passport, ‘Show size and rules’ lists 35 × 45 mm, a head of 32–36 mm, a white or light grey background, and the rule on glasses: glasses are not allowed.

  • The head measured the way this office measures it

For the Australian passport photo the head is measured from the chin to the top of the head, hair not counted. The maker applies that measure to the Australian passport frame, so hair does not skew the face size.

  • The file or the sheet you need

Save the Australian passport photo as a JPG at the right pixel size, or as a print sheet with several 35 × 45 mm copies on one page.

Good to know

The size the maker uses is the 35 × 45 mm standard, with a head of 32–36 mm. Because hair is not counted, a person with thick or voluminous hair gets the same face size as everyone else instead of a tiny face inside a tall head.

The figures for Australian passport come from the maker’s rule card, checked in October 2026 against the issuing office’s published guidance, and rules change, so read the current Australian passport instructions before you submit.
