UK passport photo maker, 35 × 45 mm
The UK asks for a light grey or cream background and a neutral face, not white. The maker follows those rules and saves the file for the online application or a print sheet.

A selfie is fine. The photo is taken by itself only when position, shoulders, facing, expression and light are all right; size and framing are set automatically.
Add one photo of your face looking straight at the camera (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC).

How to take a photo that passes
- Stand about 1 m in front of a plain light wall, facing a window or soft light.
- A selfie is fine: hold the phone at arm’s length at eye level (both hands keep the shoulders level), face and shoulders square to it. A phone right in front of the face makes the nose and forehead look bigger.
- Look straight at the camera, mouth closed, both eyes open, hair off the eyes and ears.
- No hat, no tinted glasses; keep your shoulders in the picture.
- Use a photo taken in the last 6 months.
Your photo stays on this device. Only the AI model files (about 41 MB, once) are downloaded from this site.
Some things need a new photo
These problems cannot be fixed automatically. A new photo taken like this will most likely pass:
Checks
Your photo never leaves this device. Everything runs in your browser.
How to use it
- ‘1. Choose the document’ already shows UK passport (35 × 45 mm). Switch with ‘Country’ or ‘Document and size’. ‘Show size and rules’ lists what the UK passport photo asks for.
- In ‘2. Add your photo’ choose ‘Open the camera’ or pick a picture; a UK passport photo works best in front of a plain pale wall, chin level.
- Read the ‘Checks’. For UK passport the head has to measure 29–34 mm, measured from the chin to the top of the head, hair not counted, on a light grey or cream background. For UK passport, anything under ‘Some things need a new photo’ comes with the reason and a retake tip.
- ‘Fine-tune’ shifts the position, the brightness and the UK passport head size, which must stay within 29–34 mm. Keep ‘Face, hair and clothes’ on ‘No touch-ups’.
- For UK passport: ‘Save file’ gives the online file (900 × 1157 px JPG between 50 KB and 10 MB for the online application); ‘Save print sheet’ puts copies on 4 × 6 in, 10 × 15 cm or 89 × 127 mm paper.
What it does
The rules for UK passport
For UK passport, ‘Show size and rules’ lists 35 × 45 mm, a head of 29–34 mm, a light grey or cream background, and the rule on glasses: glasses are allowed only if the frames do not cover the eyes and the lenses do not reflect light.
The head measured the way this office measures it
For the UK passport photo the head is measured from the chin to the top of the head, hair not counted. The maker applies that measure to the UK passport frame, so hair does not skew the face size.
The file or the sheet you need
The UK passport file follows the limits of the form: 900 × 1157 px JPG between 50 KB and 10 MB for the online application. A print sheet puts several copies on one page.
Good to know
White walls are the usual trap: the UK wants a light grey or cream backdrop, and a bright white wall in a phone photo turns grey in some places and blown out in others. Even light matters more than the wall colour, so face a window.
The figures for UK passport come from the maker’s rule card, checked in October 2026 against the issuing office’s published guidance, and rules change, so read the current UK passport instructions before you submit.
