A selfie is fine. The photo is taken by itself only when position, shoulders, facing, expression and light are all right; size and framing are set automatically.

Add one photo of your face looking straight at the camera (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC).

How to take a photo that passes
  • Stand about 1 m in front of a plain light wall, facing a window or soft light.
  • A selfie is fine: hold the phone at arm’s length at eye level (both hands keep the shoulders level), face and shoulders square to it. A phone right in front of the face makes the nose and forehead look bigger.
  • Look straight at the camera, mouth closed, both eyes open, hair off the eyes and ears.
  • No hat, no tinted glasses; keep your shoulders in the picture.
  • Use a photo taken in the last 6 months.

Your photo stays on this device. Only the AI model files (about 41 MB, once) are downloaded from this site.

Your photo never leaves this device. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. ‘1. Choose the document’ already shows Schengen visa (35 × 45 mm). Switch with ‘Country’ or ‘Document and size’. ‘Show size and rules’ lists what the Schengen visa photo asks for.
  2. For the Schengen visa photo, use ‘2. Add your photo’: press ‘Open the camera’ or add a file. Keep your face straight to the lens for the Schengen visa photo and use daylight.
  3. Read the ‘Checks’. For Schengen visa the head has to measure 32–36 mm, measured from the chin to the top of the head, hair not counted, on a white or light grey background. For Schengen visa, anything under ‘Some things need a new photo’ comes with the reason and a retake tip.
  4. Use ‘Fine-tune’ for the position and for the head size of the Schengen visa photo (32–36 mm allowed). Keep ‘Face, hair and clothes’ on ‘No touch-ups’.
  5. For Schengen visa: ‘Save file’ suits an online form; ‘Save print sheet’ lays out several 35 × 45 mm copies on 4 × 6 in, 10 × 15 cm or 89 × 127 mm paper.

What it does

  • The rules for Schengen visa

For Schengen visa, ‘Show size and rules’ lists 35 × 45 mm, a head of 32–36 mm, a white or light grey background, and the rule on glasses: glasses are allowed only if the frames do not cover the eyes and the lenses do not reflect light.

  • The head measured the way this office measures it

For the Schengen visa photo the head is measured from the chin to the top of the head, hair not counted. The maker applies that measure to the Schengen visa frame, so hair does not skew the face size.

  • The file or the sheet you need

Save the Schengen visa photo as a JPG at the right pixel size, or as a print sheet with several 35 × 45 mm copies on one page.

Good to know

The size is the same one used for most European passports, but each consulate decides what it accepts, and some countries ask for a photo from a studio. Treat the maker as a way to get the geometry right, then read what your consulate says.

The figures for Schengen visa come from the maker’s rule card, checked in October 2026 against the issuing office’s published guidance, and rules change, so read the current Schengen visa instructions before you submit.
